2025 Hopman Cup

Published Thu 27 Mar 2025

Victorian Country Squash's biggest event is coming up with the 51st Hopman Cup being held on 17-18 May.

The 2025 Victorian Country Teams Championship returns to MSAC for what promises to be a great event bringing together players from all across Victoria. There will be 3 divisions for teams which is subject to change based on the team entries.

Conditions of Entry 2025 – for further rules of entry please see Victorian Country Squash Teams Championship Rules of Entry Promotion and relegation will apply in all division.

One team up and one team down following the weekend results.
The Championships will be open only to players who are currently affiliated with country clubs and reside in their country area (which must be outside a 50 km’s radius from the Melbourne GPO). Players must play for only one team in one event. Players must reside in their country area 5 out of 7 nights.

Players who are attending University can apply for special dispensation to play. This will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

If insufficient players are available from your zone, players from neighbouring zones can be selected. This is only to be used as a last resort. Player’s first priority is to play with their zone. Once a player has selected to play with another zone they can only be redeemed by the original zone before the weekend. Once matches are underway there will be no swapping between zones.

A team will consist of three men, three women, one junior boy and one junior girl. Juniors must be 19 years or under on 1st January 2025. There is no limit to the number of players teams can nominate as long as they are all registered on the entry form. For areas with two teams – the number one named player for the second team can play as an emergency for the first team. This also applies to juniors. Team players are to be seeded in order 1-4 (including juniors). Juniors are eligible to play as a senior in their seeded positions (or above). Junior boys cannot play as a Junior and Senior in the same match however junior girls are eligible to do this if a team is short of players. If a team has insufficient ladies, men of a lower ranking than the ladies selected in the team are eligible to play. The male fill-in cannot play higher than the female players in the team. If a fill-in is required at a higher level the players move up and the bottom position is filled. If a male player does fill in, he must occupy the lowest position in the team. Scoring system will be: 2 points for the rubber, 1 point per game, 3 points if the team wins. If a female replacement player cannot be found it is at the discretion of the tournament director to find a fill in player who’s result will count if this is organised before the weekend. A novice women can play as the junior girl, but this does not count for points. All divisions will play with XX balls unless both players agree to another ball. Scoring will be point a rally to 15, if the score is 14 all the receiver will choose to play either a short game to 15 or long game to 17.

The Hopman Cup has its own Facebook page so please have a look or let us know what you are up to as we get closer to the event. If you need help with your team, please contact us for support and find out who is out there.

Remember that we can help to get teams up by combining areas and are always interested in hearing from you about playing.

On Saturday we are opening two courts for any casual players or juniors wanting to have some fun. This will run from 1pm to 5pm. Contact us about joining in if you have extra players or juniors wanting to have a hit.

We also organize a night out on Saturday that is casual and allows you the freedom to do other things if you wish. It is a great chance to socialise with fellow squash players alike. It would be great to get players and supporters there. This has been booked at the Bells Hotel in South Melbourne.

The entry fee per team is $230.00 and players must be registered with Squash & Racquetball Victoria. You cannot play if you are not registered, this is for insurance reasons. The entries have been sent out to country club coordinators, but if you have not recieved one, please contact the Tournament Co-ordinator. Entries close on 1st May.

Please note: This event is not being run on Rev Sport.

If you are new to this competition, please contact Squash and Racquetball Victoria or the event Co-ordinator Kevin Healy for more information.
