2024 Bendigo Racquetball Open

Published Wed 29 May 2024

The inaugural Bendigo Racquetball Open was held at the Bendigo Squash Centre on 25th – 26th May. Numbers were a bit disappointing with 33 singles and 30 doubles players entered.  We had to do some creative variations to the draws in some of the grades to give players maximum matches and keep it fair to all players. I would like to encourage players to support this event in 2025, the venue is excellent with 7 courts and good heating to make it comfortable on a cold May day.  The Bendigo Squash club did an excellent job supporting the event and provided an amazing canteen with some really great food. The players also gave me great feedback on how enjoyable this tournament and venue was.

The Men’s Open was won by Darren O’Donnell over local Cam Penna in two tight entertaining games. Unfortunately, we had no Women’s Open entries.  The Open Doubles was an all Ballarat affair, with Leon Faustini and Troy Anwyl beating Darren O’Donnell and Seth Adams in two close games.

I would also like to commend Cain Lestrange and Penny Larke who played with injuries that really hampered their court movement, so could of easily pulled out, but kept playing to give their opponents a game.
